Death Doulas?

“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”

-Benjamin Franklin

Most of us work with our employers and tax advisors to prepare for our tax burden. But how many of us spend time preparing for death? Thinking about it and especially talking about it — even planning for our death is difficult, scary and most likely overwhelming. It is an important aspect of healthcare planning and even caring for our loved ones by making sure we have arrangements and wishes in place.

An incredible resource exists to help us navigate through options and plan ahead for our end of life needs — Death Doulas. Certified End of Life doulas “specialize in providing holistic, compassionate, deathcare and emotional support for individuals facing end of life, as well as for their loved ones.”

Reamey Belski is a Death Doula in Richmond, VA, and can guide and support you in navigating and organizing for end of life care. You can connect with Reamey via the website below, and here are several upcoming events you can attend to learn more about these services:

Ask a Death Doula on April 26th is a virtual Q&A session with Death Doula Reamey Belski. She will explain what a Death Doula does and how this service benefits those facing end of life. Come ready to ask her a question about death or doula work, or anything you are curious about in this area.

The Spring Death Cafe will be held on Sunday, April 28th from 2-3:30pm at Hardywood Brewery in West Creek. A Death Cafe is an open and welcoming space for anyone who wants to talk about anything related to death and dying. Our culture tends to shy away from these conversations, and death Cafes are a way to allow individuals a chance to talk about what we all as humans will someday encounter. This is a group-led discussion and a chance to connect with others in the community.

Wine About It is a social gathering on May 6th, from 5:30-7:30pm (3500 Pump Rd, Henrico) to hear tips and advice for planning for end of life. This is an educational event with the chance to network with others in the community. There will be an optional wine-tasting so please 21+ and over only!)

RSVP as spaces are limited: www.crossoverdoulaservices.com
